About MAS Building
Monetary Authority of Singapore (Chinese: 新加坡金融管理局) is Singapore’s Central Bank. It manages foreign reserves, Singapore's exchange rate and liquidity in the banking sector. MAS set up in 1 January 1971 is also an integrated supervisor overseeing all financial institutions in Singapore. The Monetary Authority of Singapore Act gives MAS the authority to regulate all elements of monetary, banking and financial aspects of Singapore.
In April 1977, the regulation of the insurance industry is also under the wing of the MAS. After merging with the Board of Commissioners of Currency on 1 October 2002, MAS assumed the function of currency issuance. Following its merger with the Board of Commissioners of Currency on 1 October 2002, the MAS assumed the function of currency issuance. MAS has the exclusive right to issue banknotes and coins in the Republic of Singapore.
