People’s Park Complex 珍珠坊 is a 31-storey 99 years leasehold mixed residential and commercial building. The commercial part was built in 1970 whereas the residential block was built in 1973. It is situated in the heart of Chinatown at 1 Park Road Singapore 059108 in district 01. The commercial space is primarily used for office, F&B and retails shops sale and rental.

It is located at the foot of Pearl’s Hill and previously this land used to be an open park. Later on there was the Pearl’s Market or People’s Market which had many outdoor stalls set up here. But it was destroyed by a fire in 1966.

Did You Know?

1. in 1822, Lieutenant James Pearl bought over Pearl Hill and named it Mount Stamford after Sir Stamford Raffles. He sold this hill back to the colonial government when he left Singapore and since then it was named Pearl's Hill.

2. The former CID Headquarters and former Police Operational Headquarters at Pearl’s Hill were called the Upper and Lower Barracks built for the Straits Settlements Police's (SSP) Sikh's Contingent back in 1930s. SSP disbanded back in 1946. After 1965 independence, it became the buildings for Ministry of Interior and Defence.

3. Police Security Branch was formed to ensure the security of the President, Prime Minister and Cabinet ministers since 1953. Their Operations was based in one colonial bungalow at Pearl's Hill Terrace since 1965.

4. People’s Park Centre was designed by Design Partnership and the chief architects are Koh Seow Chuan and Tay Kheng soon. This Building was injected with some British Brutalist element in it. Previously it was in brown and blue colors after a makeover it is now in green and yellow colors.
